BUT TEAM- Do you have a strategy for life?

Hey, Reckless Optimists!

Let’s be honest: these days, our kids know more about having a strategy than most adults.
They’ve got coping tools. Scripts for hard conversations. Regulating tactics.
They’re taught to pause, name their feelings, and choose how to respond.

Meanwhile, grown-ups? We’re just out here raw-dogging life and calling it “resilience.”

Here’s the deal: when life is cruising, it’s easy to coast.
You don’t need strategy when everything’s going fine.
You don’t need to use your values when the choices are easy.
You don’t build character when nothing is being tested.

But guess what? That’s not where real life happens.

Life happens in the friction. In the stuck moments. The spinouts. The stagnation.
That’s where you burn out, drain out, or lash out—unless you’ve got a strategy in place.

What’s a Life Strategy, Really?

It’s your playbook for when things get real.
It’s how you protect your energy when you’re maxed out.
It’s how you ground yourself when everything feels chaotic.
It’s how you make aligned decisions when you don’t feel like it.

A solid life strategy is how you go from default mode to designed living.

And guess what anchors that strategy? LEARNING TO DO HARD BETTER.
An actual triage plan, a system, a strategy for the WTF—the kind that says:

  • This is what I value.

  • This is how I show up.

  • This is where my energy goes—and where it doesn’t.

This Week’s Challenge: Build Your Micro-Strategy

Because sometimes the reason you’re overwhelmed or burned out isn’t because you’re broken—it’s because you’re winging it with no game plan. Reinventing the wheel, and LORD, the decision fatigue is massive.

Step 1: Identify your repeat triggers.
They are your keys—your invitations for growth.
Where do you get stuck, resentful, or depleted over and over again?

Step 2: Write a mini-strategy for each.
Literally, write it down like a script.

Examples:

  • When I feel overwhelmed → I pause and do a brain dump instead of spiraling in my head.

  • When someone asks me for something last-minute → I say, “Let me get back to you” before saying yes.

  • When I get emotionally drained → I give myself permission to unplug without guilt.

Step 3: Make it visual.
Put it in your phone. On a sticky note. On your fridge. Whatever works. But make it real.

Community Spotlight

Shoutout to MY DAUGHTER LJ for creating her own “Actually I Can List.”
Anytime she feels scared or nervous—she has discerned between the two because she is an 11-year-old ginger shaman—she goes to her "Actually I Can List" of all the things she said she couldn’t do or was scared to do... and DID.

From giant water slides, to the talent show, to honor roll, to swimming across the pool (THE LONG WAY), to standing up to a bully.
When she’s stuck or needs to make a decision and she’s caught in fear or uncertainty, she has a strategy. An SOP for her courage, if you will.

And YEAH—this is why she is my greatest teacher. And holy mother—THAT is how you lead yourself.

Pep Talk to Close It Out

Let’s get one thing clear: you don’t rise to the level of your goals—you fall to the level of your systems. — James Clear

And if your only system is “hope I feel like it”... you already know how that story ends.

You don’t need more willpower. You need a strategy.

One that kicks in before burnout hits.
One that protects you from yourself when your people-pleasing, perfectionist, procrastinating tendencies try to hijack your day.
One that puts your values into action.

This week, build your strategy.
Because you deserve more than just reacting to life.
You deserve to lead it.

Let’s go.

xo,
Jessi

This isn’t another “feel good” program.
This is The High Performers Handbook (what I created for my corporate teams I consult with) meets The Possibility Project with the burner turned up on strategy meets action—wrapped in a ride-or-die community and led by someone (👋) who knows what it’s like to be stuck—and exactly how to get out.

We kick off April 4th, so by the time the mid-year mark hits, you’re not asking, “Where did the time go?”
You’re saying, “Damn, look at how far I’ve come.”
